What can I say that hasn’t already been said about me; young, fit, boundless energy & enthusiasm? These are all words that haven’t been said about me.

3 Peaks Team Profile: Andy Barnard

30 Jun 2009

Well not many days to go now! The training such as it has been is now largely irrelevant as I am not going to get much fitter before the end of the week. Unfortunately for me it has also been largely irrelevant since returning from a holiday down under at the start of May due to a few work pressures – we all know about that!

United Welsh do the 3 Welsh Peaks

11 Jun 2009

When Amy Barett at United Welsh Housing Association heard that we were doing the 3 Peaks Challenge, she sent us this video of the United Welsh team doing the 3 Welsh Peaks. It’s great to feel part of a wider community of fund-raising adventurers!

3 Peaks: Behind the Scenes at Breast Cancer Campaign

6 Jun 2009

Jane Pritchard I was really excited to start work as an Events Executive at Breast Cancer Campaign, because they offer such a fantastic range of events. I currently work on our UK Challenges, including Three Peaks, Hadrian’s Wall and a variety of other trekking, cycling and challenge events. I also spend a lot of time working on wear it pink – the UK’s original and best(!) pink day which raised £3.5 million last year. We are already gearing up for the big day this Friday 30 October.

Why the Three Peaks?

5 Jun 2009

I’ve been climbing up mountains since I was 12 years old.

Pooh and Piglet

  • I’ve done Ben Nevis several times (and probably circa 50 or 60 ‘Munros’ – these are Scottish Mountains over 3,000 ft)
  • I’ve had my ‘Pooh and Piglet’ in the snow moment (the one where they find woozle tracks) on top of Scafell (note: not the Pike…at least I knew which mountain I was lost on!)
  • I’ve even dived backwards off an overhanging rock face, high up on Snowdon as a mad teenager (not to be recommended at any age).

Some of the team headed off to Snowdon for a training session during the last weekend in May. Here are some action shots:

26 May 2009

polocrosseI missed out on doing the 3 Peaks a few years ago and since then its been on my ever expanding list of ‘things to do’. So it seemed only right that, when the opportunity to do so landed in my inbox, I should jump at the chance (or as my son probably more aptly put it; ‘I didn’t sit on my hands quickly enough’!). I’m really pleased to be joining the THFC team for this challenge and to have the chance to do this for breast cancer research, since, like many others, this has affected people close to me, I’ve been at Trowers & Hamlins now for three years, having joined as a recently qualified solicitor. I work in the Housing Projects department and do a mix of social housing development work and stock transfers. I was a late entrant to the profession, getting my law degree when my children started school – which means that most descriptions of me start with ‘mature’, although I’m not sure I quite live up to that!

3 Peaks Team Profile: Luke Sinclair

13 May 2009

The THFC 3 Peaks Challenge began with a casual conversation round the office, sparked by Luke Sinclair, who initially wanted to take on this adventure as a personal challenge. Little did he know that his idea would inspire a team of others from THFC and Trowers….

Midsummer Madness

14 Apr 2009

This week, we take a brief break from our usual coverage of all things housing to let you into the THFC team building mentality (and how mad we really are).

Ben Nevis In a moment of weakness at our THFC Christmas party we decided to do a bit of team bonding, for the sake of the Breast Cancer Campaign by completing the Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in 24 hours through (all of!) 11 July. We’ve joined forces with a couple of Trowers fitness fanatics (who will be completing time sheets for every 20 minutes of the 24 hours – it’s really our cunning plan to fit 30 hours’ labour into 24 hours in best lawyerly fashion!)
